His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Chairman of the Board of Trustees

In 2015, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, launched the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) as an overarching entity uniting dozens of humanitarian, aid, and development initiatives he sponsors and supports. The foundation aims to enhance and institutionalise humanitarian work in Dubai and the UAE by providing the necessary tools, technologies, expertise, and resources to advance these efforts. It also seeks to contribute to improving conditions across the Arab world and beyond.

When Sheikh Mohammed assumed the role of Crown Prince of Dubai on 4 January 1995, humanitarian and relief efforts in Dubai adopted a more comprehensive approach, driven by a vision focused on enhancing the quality of life for individuals in less fortunate communities.

On 4 January 2006, Sheikh Mohammed became the Ruler of Dubai and a member of the UAE Supreme Council. On 11 February 2006, he assumed the position of Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. Under his guidance, humanitarian and relief work expanded significantly—both at the federal level and within the Emirate of Dubai—growing in scale, speed, and sustainability.

In 2016, Sheikh Mohammed launched the most significant Arab renaissance project in the region—the "Revival of Arab Civilization." During a discussion session at the 2017 World Government Summit, he outlined his vision for the Arab region to revive its cultural, intellectual, and humanitarian achievements across history. The "Revival of Arab Civilization" project, which serves as a driving force behind various initiatives and projects under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), aims to rebuild the cultural, intellectual, and civilizational identity of the Arab nation on scientific and knowledge-based foundations. It seeks to foster creativity and innovation across diverse fields, support Arab scientists, researchers, and thinkers, empower youth, and promote a culture of hope and constructive change in the Arab world.

Since the launch of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) in 2016 until 2024, the foundation's total expenditure on its various initiatives, projects, programmes and campaigns across its five pillars exceeded AED 13.8 billion, benefiting more than 788 million people in 118 countries around the world.
